David VanAvermaete, Co-founder and CEO
David Van Avermaete has 30 years of experience in medical devices including 22 years in the diabetes field with specific expertise in home blood glucose monitoring and diagnostics. He is a former US president of the LifeScan division of Johnson & Johnson, who during his 13 year tenure grew annual sales from under $100 million to over $1.0 billion and the number one position in the market. Prior to LifeScan, David was the Director of Marketing for home blood glucose monitoring products at Roche Diagnostics.
M. Ries Robinson, MD, COO
Dr. Robinson, initiated research into noninvasive blood chemistry monitoring in collaboration with University of New Mexico School of Medicine and Sandia Laboratories in 1988. He has co-authored in excess of 30 US patents and has authored several peer-reviewed technical articles, received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the NM Inventor of the Year Program in 1992, and was named the New Mexico Inventor of the Year in 1994. He has an M.D. from the University New Mexico School of Medicine and a M.S. and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford. Dr. Robinson completed a post-doctoral research fellowship with a joint research appointment at Sandia and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Robinson, currently the COO of VeraLight, continues to serve as Chairman of the Board for InLight Solutions, Inc. and as a director for VeraLight and Lumidigm—all spinout companies of InLight Solutions.
Marwood Ediger, CTO
Is a specialist in fluorescence spectroscopy and tissue optics. Prior to joining InLight Solutions in 2003, he spent 16 years at the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, leading a research program in the applications of lasers and optics in medical devices. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
John Maynard, Vice President, Technology
Co-founder of VeraLight and InLight Solutions with 20 years of electrical engineering and product development experience. Led a 44-person product development team that successfully designed, built and tested low cost, high performance engineering prototypes of a noninvasive glucose monitor following the design control requirements of the FDA quality systems regulations. Prior to co-founding InLight, John was a project lead and embedded systems engineer at BBN, Inc.
Scott Dolin, Vice President, Operations & Engineering
Mr. Dolin has over 27 years of medical device industry experience, with the last 15 years as vice president of operations & engineering. He served at IMED (acquired by Cardinal Health), an intravenous infusion therapy company, for 13 years with his last position as director of operations and worldwide engineering. Mr. Dolin has managed the successful commercialization of numerous major device platforms domestically and internationally and has successfully been involved with medical device startup companies. Previous to his medical device industry career, he served 8 years at the University of California San Diego, School of Medicine, Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, as a research specialist.
Alan Totah, RAC, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, & QA
Mr. Totah has over 30 years professional Regulatory Affairs, Quality, and Clinical experience with medical devices focused in the areas of implantable Cardiovascular & Neurological Systems, and Imaging. Alan served as VP of RA & Quality Systems for Cyberonics, Inc. for 5 years during which the VNS Therapy PMA was approved for a Treatment Resistant Depression Indication. His professional career has provided support to other major medical device manufacturers such as Medtronic Heart Failure Devices, Sulzer Intermedics Implantable Defibrillators and Pacers, and most recently GEHC as Director of RA Premarket / Clinical Operations directly supporting the Chief Medical Officer of GEHC World Wide. Alan’s professional experience is primarily focused on the US FDA regulatory body requirements and associated with medical devices requiring IDE, PMAA, PMA-S, and 510(k) applications. Further, he has over 14 years of Quality Systems management experience.
Wycliffe (Cliff) X. McIntosh, Vice President, International
With over 27 years of commercial medical device and diagnostic experience, Mr. McIntosh has successfully led commercial operations throughout the globe ranging in size from $5 to $300 million. He held several executive positions with LifeScan, Inc. – a Johnson & Johnson company including International Vice President where he was responsible for companies in Asia/Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa regions over a 15 year period. During this timeframe, he launched and rapidly gained market leadership in the highly competitive blood glucose monitoring segment of diabetes care in most major countries. Most recently, he was President of the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute and was responsible for creating innovative training organizations and programs around the globe focused on educating thousands of health care professionals. Prior to joining VeraLight, Cliff was CEO of Ultroid Technologies, a small startup medical device company specializing in vascular care.
